December 31, 2008 Airport Alert 2: BNIA Firefighters responded this afternoon for a report of an inbound plane with a cracked windshield making an emergency landing on runway 23. Cheektowaga companies Hy-View, U-Crest, & Cleveland Hill were put on standby along with CD-132. The plane landed safely. Working Fire: Orchard Park Firefighters responded this morning for a report of a kitchen fire on North Buffalo Rd at the Village Center Apartments. EMS-1 went on location reporting a working fire. Dispatch Google View December 24, 2008 Injured Firefighter Update: I received an email with an update on the injured Alleghany County Firefighters. The 2 Cuba firefighters injured and hospitalized sunday in a building collapse returned home Tuesday nite. 12 Departments with about 75 vehicles paraded the boys back in town to the Cuba Fire station where over 200 fellow firefighter and friends welcomed them home. They still have a long road of recovery with Hughes having an 8 - 12 weeks recovery and Sweet ,who has to wear a neck brace for a minimum of 3 months and then be reevaluated. Tom Torpey, the Friendship Firefighter, has undergone 2 surgeries one on his neck and one placing a steel rod in his back has been upgraded from critical to serious condition and is still in the ICU at ECMC. Fire Scene Photos December 22, 2008 Working Fire: Depew Firefighters responded this evening for a report of a structure fire on Woodlawn St. Depew 9-5 went on location reporting smoke showing from an unattached garage. The fire was under control in about 14 minutes. Dispatch MVA / Person Trapped: Snyder Firefighters responded this afternoon for a report of a MVA on the I-290 @ Main St. Snyder 5 went on location reporting a 2 car MVA- 1 rollover with a person trapped. The victim was extricated in about 14 minutes. Photos Firefighters Update: I received an email with condition reports from the Firefighters injured in Alleghany County yesterday. One Cuba Firefighter was treated at JMH and released. The other 3, 2 Cuba and 1 Friendship Firefighters, were transfered to ECMC for treatment. Of The 2 from Cuba , 1 has a neck injury and they both have some cracked and compressed vertabrae as well as various bruises and cuts. The 1 from Friendship had to undergo 6-8 hourse of sugery to repair a broken sternum and pelvis. December 21, 2008 Working Fire: Lawtons Firefighters responded this afternoon for a report of a structure fire on Marshfield Rd. Langford 9-3 went on location reporting a garage fully involved. Mutual Aid companies were Langford, North Collins, Mortons Corners (Tanker), Cattaragus Indian Reservation (Tanker), & Brant (Tanker). Dispatch 5 Firefighters Trapped: Friendship firefighter's where pressed into service just before 6am this morning, for a Strucuture Fire at a local Pizza Shop. First arriving Fire Chief requested a 2nd alarm with Mutual Aid departments from more than half of the County. Shortly into the incident there was a partial building collapse. Commanding Officers requested a third alarm with five firefighters trapped. FAST teams from the county where activated and removed the firefighters from the debris whrere awating ambulaces transported them to Jones Memorial Hospital. The condition of the firefighters is unknown at this time. Working Fire: Patchin Firefighters responded this morning for a report of a structure fire on Lower East Hill Rd. Boston 9-2 reported heavy smoke in the area while enroute and went on location reporting a working fire in a 3 car garage. B-47 went on location with smoke showing from the attic of 2 1/2 story frame. B-47 further reported fire in the cockloft of a 6 unit multi-family dwelling.The fire was under control in about 24 minutes & the cause is under investigation. Click Here Injured Firefighter Update: Marilla 3rd Assistant Chief George Gertz was injured today while attempting a rescue at a working fire on Eldridge Rd. The chief arrived on location reporting a working fire and alerting East Aurora dispatch he was entering the structure to attempt a rescue. The chief was caught in either a small explosion or backdraft and suffered burns to the face and hands. It turns out noone was in the residence upon arrival. Chief Gertz is listed in serious condition at ECMC at this hour. I wish him a speedy recovery. 2 Alarm Fire / Firefighter Down: Marilla Firefighters responded this morning for a report of a structure fire on Eldridge Rd. Marilla 9-3 went on location reporting a working fire with people trapped and he was going in for the rescue. Holland Medic 3 arrived on scene & assumed command and reported a Mayday for a Firefighter down and requested Rural/Metro to expedite for burns and respiratory comprimised. East Seneca 9 went on location reporting a trauma code and requested Mercy Flight to the scene, but were informed no HELO was available. December 13, 2008 1 Alarm Fire: Buffalo Firefighters responded this evening for a report of a structure fire on Lark St. Originally the dispatch sent Firefighters on Sydney St. B-56 was on location with fire on the 2nd floor venting out the windows of 2 story vacant dwelling. B-56 further reported fire on all floors and basement. Crews reported numerous holes in the floors and a Mayday was sounded when 2 firefighters fell. B-43 reported they fell down stairs and not through a hole in the floor. The fire was under control in about 36 minutes. Ladder 14 reported fire in the basement & Engine 23 reported extension up the walls. Engine 31 reported 2 Firefighters fell through a hole on the 1st floor into the basement. No injuries were reported. The fire was under control in about 36 minutes & the cause is under investigation. One adult victim suffered fatal injuries and one child also suffered serious injuries.
