Working Fire:

Snyder Firefighters responded this afternoon for a report of a possible chimney fire on Frankhauser Rd. Snyder 9 went on location with fire showing from the roof of a 2 1/2 story frame and reported a workung fire. Command further reported fire in a rear family room through the roof. getzville responded mutual aid as the FAST team. The fire was under control in about 26 minutes.

Scranton Firefighters responded this morning for a report of a structure fire on Sowles Rd. Scranton 9-1 went on location reporting a working fire. Mutual Aid companies were Hamburg (Heavy Rescue), Armor (Engine), Newton Abbott (Ladder), Big Tree (Ambulance), Orchard Park (FAST). The fire was under control in about 17 minutes.

Buffalo Firefighters responded this evening for a report of a MVA at Main St & Amherst St. Engine 34 went on location reporting a 2 car MVA with high impact. Ladder 7 reported a rollover with 1 trapped & requested 3 ambulances 1 ALS to the scene. Rescue 1 extricated the victim in about 39 minutes.

Buffalo Firefighters responded late this morning to investigate a possible electrical fire on Kensington Ave. Engine 23 went on location reporting smoke and something going in the walls and requested the balance of the 1st alarm. B-47 assumed command and reported fire in the walls of a 1 1/2 story frame with a storefront. B-56 reported extension to all floors and heavy smoke conditions and requested additional equipment bringing Engines 31,38 & Ladder 13 to the scene. One Firefighter suffered a minor injury. The fire was under control in about 41 minutes.

Grand Island Firefighters responded this evening for a report of a structure fire on Center Court North. Grand Island 9-3 reported heavy smoke showing. Grand Island 9 requested a FAST team and reported a working fire on the 3rd floor of a multiple unit apartment building. Mutual Aid companies were Sheridan Park (FAST), City of Tonawanda, Eggertsville, & Brighton (fill in at Grand Island). One civilian was transported for smoke inhalation. The fire was under control in about 57 minutes.

Wales Center Firefighters responded this morning for a report of a MVA on Strykersville Rd near East Creek Rd. Wales Center 8 went on location reporting a car off the road into the ditch with 1 person trapped & requested Strykersville 7 to assist with extrication. The victim was freed in about 40 minutes.

For the second time in two weeks, New York City firefighters are mourning the loss of one of their own.
Lt. Robert J. Ryan Jr., 46, died after sustaining injures from a ceiling collapse while he was working in the attic of a two-story dwelling on Van Buren Street in Staten Island. An FDNY spokesman said that the collapse knocked off his SCBA face piece and he became unconscious. "The firefighters got to him quickly, got him right out and started CPR on him right away." He was transported to Richmond University Medical Center of Staten Island, where Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta announced his death at a 6 a.m. press conference. Lt. Ryan, a 17-year veteran of the department, had been assigned to Engine 155 for over two years. His company was the first to arrive at the 12:28 a.m. fire, which reached two alarms. Since his appointment to the FDNY on April 14, 1991, he previously worked at Engines 228, 280 and 282 in Brooklyn, Engine 6 in Manhattan, Battalion 4 in Manhattan. and the 22nd Battalion in Staten Island. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in March 2001. Lt. Ryan, a lifelong Staten Island resident, is survived by his wife, Kathleen; a son, Chris, 17; a daughter, Kayla, 12; a stepson, Alex, 10; and a stepdaughter, Emma, 8.

Buffalo Firefighters responded early this morning for a report of a structure fire on West Delevan Ave. B-44 went on location reporting fire on the 2nd floor venting out the windows of a 2 1/2 story frame and an exposure problem on the #2 side. Engine 37 responded as the extra Engine to the scene. One Firefighter from Engine 19 suffered a minor injury and was transported to a local hospital. Two civilians suffered minor injuries as well and were treated. The fire was under control in about 31 minutes.

Buffalo Firefighters responded early this morning for a report of a structure fire on Oneida St. B-43 went on location with heavy fire showing from the 2nd floor of a 2 1/2 story vacant dwelling. B-56 requested an additional Engine (22) to the scene for water supply and ordered defensive operation setting up Ladder pipes. Crews finalized operations in about 2 hours 52 minutes.

Buffalo Firefighters responded this evening to investigate smoke on Moselle St. Engine 31 reported heavy smoke in the area and requested the balance of the 1st alrm. B-43 reported heavy smoke showing from the 1st 7 2nd floors of a 2 story frame. The fire was under control in about 18 minutes.

2 Alarm Fire:
Scranton Firefighters responded this evening for a report of a basement fire on Sowles Rd. Scranton 9-1 went on location reporting light smoke showing. Scranton 9 assumed command a reported a working basement fire. The automatic 2nd alarm mutual aid companies were Big Tree (Engine & Ambulance), Woodlawn (Ladder), Lake Shore (Heavy Rescue), Newton Abbott (FAST). The fire was knocked down in about 16 minutes.

Mutual Aid Barn Fire:
Wales Center Firefighters responded mutual aid to Sheldon in Wyoming County for a working barn fire at Dutch Hollow Rd & Center Line Rd. Wales Center was assigned to draft from a pond to establish a water supply. Marilla also responded as a fill in company at Cowelsville, East Aurora filled in at Wales Center, & Holland filled in at Strykersville.

Buffalo Firefighters responded this afternoon for a report of a structure fire on Sprenger Ave. Engine 31 went on location reporting 2 structures involved and requested an additional 2 Engines & 1 Truck to the scene. B-43 requested the 2nd alarm enroute and went on location reporting fire in the rear on all floors of the main fire building with the #4 exposure also involved and a possible exposure on the #2 side. LODD:
A Goldsboro City, N.C. firefighter and EMS team member died on Friday, Nov. 14 at her home following a shift after suffering an apparent heart attack, according to the USFA. For full story

Buffalo Firefighters responded this evening for a report of a boiler room fire on Delaware Ave at the Jewish Community Center. Engine 2 went on location reporting an order of smoke in the area. E2 further reported a door on fire in the basement. The fire was under control in about 12 minutes.

Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta announced that Probationary Firefighter Jamel M. Sears died at Mt. Sinai Medical Center on November 11, where he was taken after falling unconscious following completion of a training exercise at the Department's training academy located at Randall's Island on November 10.
Probationary Firefighter Sears, 33, was appointed to the FDNY on July 1, 2008, and was enrolled in the 23-week Probationary Firefighters Training Program. Sears collapsed about 11:30 a.m., after successfully completing an 18-minute training exercise where he donned full firefighting gear and performed a series of tasks and functional skills.  Firefighters on scene tried to revive him but he never regained consciousness.
Probationary Firefighter Sears, a lifelong Bronx resident, was a four-year U.S. Navy veteran (1995-1999) and served aboard the USS Alaska. He also worked at TD Waterhouse as a customer rep and at Keyspan Energy as an operating mechanic prior to joining the FDNY. He graduated from All Hallows High School and attended Bronx Community College before enlisting in the Navy.
He is survived by his wife, Sherita, a New York City Police Officer assigned to the 41st Precinct in the Bronx, and their two children, son Mahlek, 12, and daughter Jya, 8.

Kenilworth Firefighters responded this evening for a report of a residential structure fire with residents trapped on Claremont St. Kenilworth 9 was on location reporting smoke showing & a person trapped on the 2nd floor. The victim was rescued within 7 minutes of the alarm and transported to an area hospital. Command updated dispatch that there was a working kitchen fire on the 1st floor. The fire was under control in about 14 minutes.

Round 11 of the 2008 AFG Awards was issued yesterday. The followign companies in Erie County recieved an award for Operations & Safety. Rescue Hose Company in Cheektowaga received $66,232; Winchester Fire Company received $132,098; & the Lawtons Fire Company received $8,219.

Buffalo firefighters and Rural Metro EMS responded to the Buffalo Zoo this afternoon for an MCI.
Inital call placed 19 children overcome by pepper spray/mace at the Buffalo Zoo Magnet School.
Buffalo Fire responded with Engine 38, Ladder 13, Rescue 1, B-47, B-41, F-20, and F-9 responded.
Rural Metro EMS units responding included 2 ambulances, 952, and Medic 9. Erie County dispatched ES-11 as well as SMART 1 & 2 to the incident. Buffalo Police also responded to the scene.
1 transport occurred while numerous children were treated and released at the scene.
Medical Command was terminated after about 2 hours.

Patchin Firefighters responded this afternoon for a report of a structure fire on Lower East Hill Rd. North Boston 9-1 went on location reporting a working fire in an attached garage with extension to the house. Mutual Aid companies were Boston (Engine), North Boston (Engine), West Falls (Engine), Colden (Engine), East Concord (Engine), East Eden (Engine to fill in at Patchin), Hamburg (Engine to fill in North Boston), & Boston Emergency Squad. The fire was under control in about 67 minutes.

Clarence Center Firefighters responded early this morning for a report of a fire in a greenhouse on Clarence Center Rd at Thompson Brothers. Clarence Center 9 went on location reporting the fire out on arrival. Mutual Aid was alerted for Clarence and Getzville (FAST). All units were back in service in about 32 minutes.

MVA / Person Trapped:

Bellvue Firefighters responded this evening for a report of a MVA at Union RD & Como Park Blvd. Bellvue 9 went on location reporting a 2 car MVA, 1 Rollover and extrication required. The victim was extricated in about 12 minutes.

1 Alarm Fire:
Buffalo Firefighters responded this afternoon for a report of a High Rise fire on Niagara Square at City Hall. C-1 reported to B-56 that smoke was moderate on the 9th floor, the source being an electrical problem with a wall heater in one of the offices on that floor.. The 9th floor of City Hall was ordered to be evacuated while the rest of the building during initial search was found to be void of smoke. Crash & Burn Weekend Day 2:

The Sheridan Park Fire Company held Day 2 of the Crash & Burn Weekend with the Live Burn. Firefighters who participated were from Sheridan, Park, Eggertsville, Ellicott Creek, Kenilworth, Union, Rescue, U-Crest, Grand Island, Big Tree, Woodlawn, Depew, Getzville, Hartland, Middleport, North Bailey, East Aurora, & Williamsville.

MVA / Multiple People Trapped:
Buffalo Firefighters responded this morning for a report of a MVA at the intersection of Clinton & Michigan involving two cars, nine patients. Engine 1, Ladder 2 first on scene requesting additional assistance from Engine 32, F-20, B-43 as well as extrication required from Rescue 1 for one vehicle with entrapment. Rural Metro Medical Services 952 (Supervisor) requested a total of 5 ambulances to the scene for transports to various local hospitals. A total of 8 transports and 1 refusal @ scene. All victims were extricated in about 48 minutes.

Buffalo Firefighters responded early this morning to investigate smoke in the area on Sheffield St. Engine 4 went on location reporting smoke in the area trying to locate the source. Engine further reported a working fire and requested the balance of the 1st alarm. B-46 reported fire on the 2nd floor of a 1 1/2 vacant. The fire was under control in about 25 minutes.

Buffalo Firefighters responded this morning for a report of a structure fire on Cable St. Engine 35 went on location reporting a working fire and smoke showing from the front of the building. B-46 requested an ambulance to the scene for 1 civilian. The fire was under control in about 9 minutes.

Buffalo Firefighters responded this evening for a report of a structure fire on Shoreham St. Engine 26 went on location with smoke showing from a 2 1/2 story frame. B-47 assumed command and reported fire on the 2nd floor and throughout the attic of a large 2 1/2 story frame. Command reported a partial roof collapse and B-56 ordered all personnel out of the building and defensive operation. The fire was under control in about 49 minutes.

Crash & Burn Weekend:
The Sheridan Park Fire Company along with Churchville Fire Equipment, Turnout Express, & RESQTEC Rescue Tools held the 1st day of the Crash & Burn Weekend. Today included Engine/Truck Operations, Ventilation, Foam Operations, & Auto Extrication. Working Fire:
City of Tonawanda Firefighters responded this afternoon for a report of a structure fire on Niagara St. Truck 1 went on location reporting a working fire in a 2 story wood frame. Car 12 went on location reporting fire in the attic. Brighton responded mutual aid as the FAST team. The fire was under control in about 45 minutes.

Brighton Firefighters responded this afternoon for a report of a shed fire and explosion on Rochelle Park. Brighton 9 went on location reporting a shed fire and garage involved and requested a FAST team. Sheridan Park responded mutual aid to the scene as the FAST team. The fire was under control in about 12 minutes.

Vigilant Firefighters responded this morning for a report of a structure fire on Center Rd at Just Pizza. East Seneca 9 went on location reporting smoke showing and a fire in the wall in the rear of the structure. Vigilant 9 went on location assuming command and requested Reserve truck 6 to the scene. Mutual Aid companies were East Seneca, Union, Reserve, & CD-133. The fire was under control in about 15 minutes.

Kenmore Firefighters responded this morning for a report of a MVA at Colvin Blvd & Crosby Rd. Kenmore 9-5 went on location reporting a 2 car MVA with 1 person trapped and requested Sheridan Park to the scene for extrication.

Buffalo Firefighters responded early this morning for a report of a structure fire on Mulberry St. B-56 went on location with smoke showing from a 1 1/2 story frame and fire on the 1st floor. The fire was under control in about 31 minutes.

Lancaster Firefighters responded this morning for a report of a structure fire on Walden Ave. Lancaster 9 went on location reporting a working fire in a 2 1/2 story frame and requested multiple mutual aid to the scene. Mutual Aid companies were Bowmansville (FAST), Millgrove, Town Line, Twin District, Hy-View, Bellvue, Forks, Harris Hill, & Depew.

Holland Firefighters responded this afternoon for a report of a MVA on Holland Glenwood Rd. Holland 9-2 went on location reporting a MVA with entrapment and serious injuries. Mercy Flight was requested to the scene for 1 victim with serious injuries. Colden responded mutual aid to assist with extrication. The victim was extricated in about 26 minutes.

Airport Alert:

CD-132, U-Crest, Hy-View, &Cleveland Hill Firefighters were alerted to an Alert 2 at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport for an inbound plane carrying 34 people having major landing gear problems. The plane landed without incident.

Fatal Pedestrian Struck:
Twin District Firefighters responded last night for a report of a pedestrian struck on Aurora St. Command went on location reporting a pedestrian down and confirmed a fatality.

Buffalo Firefighters responded this evening for a report of a structure fire on Stanton St. Engine 3 reported smoke showing from quarters. B-43 reported fire on the 1st floor and fire in the attic of a 2 1/2 story frame. The fire was under control in about 18 minutes.

Working Fire:

Brighton Firefighters responded early this morning for a report of a structure fire on Blackstone Dr. Brighton 9-1 went on location reporting a fully involved 2nd floor bedroom of a 2 story house. Brighton 9 assumed command and reported to dispatch heavy fire showing on the #1, 3, & 4 sides of the 2nd floor and requested mutual aid. Mutual Aid comapnies were Kenilworth, Sheridan Park, Kenmore (fill in), & Ellwood (FAST). The fire was out in about 17 minutes and crews were on scnene overhauling for about 63 minutes.

Brush Fire:
Wales Center Firefighters responded last night for a report of a Brush Fire on Hunters Creek Rd. Command went on location reporting 2 1/2 to 3 acres involved about approximately 500 feet back from the road and requested mutual aid to the scene. Mutual Aid companies were Marilla, Holland, South Wales, & Strykersville.
