BFD 3 Alarm LODD

Buffalo Firefighters responded early this morning for a report of a structure fire with people trapped on Genesee St. Engine 31 reported smoke showing from quarters and went on location with heavy smoke showing and reports of people trapped, & B-43 requested additional equipment bringing Engines 33,28, & Ladder 15 to the scene. B-43 reported a basement fire and Rescues in progress on the 2nd floor. B-56 reported a possible civilian trapped in the basement and requested the balance of the 2nd alarm to the scene. A man down was transmitted over the radio by Rescue 1 and the FAST team (Ladder 7) was activated. Reports were the officer of Rescue 1 went through the floor into the basement. B-56 requested a 3rd alarm to the scene along with the Collapse Rescue Rig and a backhoe from the City Engineers office. During an accountability check one Firefighter from Ladder 7 was also missing. Both firefighters were found and recovered in the basement . The fire was put under control at the 6 hour mark. Lt Chip McCarthy of Rescue 1 and Firefighter Johnathan Croom of Ladder 7were identified as the 2 fallen Firefighters by Commissioner Michael Lombardo. Dispatch
